Kate Johnson is the founder and chief cheesemaker at Briar Gate Farm in Longmont, Colorado. After spending years perfecting a variety of award-winning cheese recipes and her teaching skills to go alongside them, the cheesemaking school, The Art of Cheese was born.

Hands-on Education - Invite your cheese loving friends and roll up your sleeves! Your cheesemaking experience gets you 1 + 1/2 hours of exploring the world of cheesemaking alongside Kate, in the privacy of your own home kitchen. 

Your Favorite Cheeses - So many delicious options! Will it be Mozzarella? Or Cheddar? Or perhaps a Marinated Feta? Allow Kate to guide you through the fundamentals of your favorite flavors.

Description - Invite your friends to your kitchen for a fun and educational, hands-on cheesemaking class for beginners. You supply the guests, and Kate will supply the education, materials, recipe booklets and samples. From farm fresh goat's milk to store bought cow's milk, you'll explore what milks work best for which cheeses and where to find them. Learn tips and shortcuts that will enable you to make delicious, nutritious cheeses with minimal specialized equipment or ingredients.

Choose from Chevre, Fromage Blanc, Cottage Cheese, Mozzarella, Ricotta, Burrata, Guido's Italian Hard Cheese, Dry-Salted and Marinated Feta, Brie, Camembert & Mold-ripened Goat Cheese, Colby, and Milkhouse Cheddar. 

Each experience is 1 + 1/2 hours in length and will cover 1-3 cheeses, depending on the cheeses you decide to make. 

Cost - $275 for group sizes of up to eight people; $30 per person for each additional person. (Travel fee applies for any distance further than 15 minutes from Briar Gate Farm in Longmont.)

About Kate Johnson 

Kate Johnson, Briar Gate Farm

Kate Johnson is the founder and director of Briar Gate Farm, LLC, a local farm program offering creative and inspiring learning opportunities centered around animals and farmstead arts. She raises Nubian and Mini Nubian Dairy goats which is how she got her start in home-cheesemaking. 
After dabbling with a variety of recipes for several years and taking a few classes here and there, she eventually took an Advanced Cheesemaking Course from Larry and Linda Fallaice of the Three Shepherds Farm in of Vermont.

Kate has won many blue and champion ribbons for her cheeses at the Boulder County Fair and has taught cheesemaking classes through Colorado State Extension Services, the City of Longmont, Front Range Community College, Cheese Importers, Boulder Valley Lifelong Learning, Mary's Market & Deli, Savory Spice, and in private homes throughout Colorado's Front Range. In the fall of 2014, she plans to open a brick-and-mortar cheesemaking school in Longmont called The Art of Cheese. 

When not making or teaching cheese or other farm programs, she is also a Professional Life Coach, co-leads a local 4-H Club and is the Secretary of the Colorado Dairy Goat Association.
